The Global Futures Agenda

We provide impartial research to decision-makers who play a crucial role in shaping the global policy agenda.

We are an independent think tank that is dedicated to translating high-integrity, African-led research into bankable and scalable policy frameworks.

Our work is anchored in understanding and mitigating the impact of major trends that shape the rise and fall of global political and economic orders; such as debt vulnerability, conflicts, ecological risks, technology, and geopolitical competition.

We equip West African nations with actionable, and evidence-based frameworks to navigate trends and secure sustainable economic transformation through our flagship annual Report on West African Competitiveness and Resilience Index (WACRI).

The Institute has four centres based on key economic drivers, which are grouped into three categories: Basic-level factors, Revenue-efficiency factors, and Innovative and Competitiveness factors that drive growth and stability.

Centre for Regional Commerce and Connectivity focuses on trade and transport. It recommends frameworks for removing non-tariff barriers to improve regional supply chains.

Centre for Environment and Agro-system focuses on Agriculture and Environment; and suggests climate impact models, food systems framework, and natural resource governance.

Centre for Economics and Innovation handles Finance and Economics. This centre provides de-risking models for Foreign Direct Investment, Green Bond standards, and scalable market analysis.

Centre for Governance and Peace-Building promotes the rule of law, conducts conflict impact analysis in West Africa, and provides inclusive governance models based on the ECOWAS action plan.

Our Mission

To equip WEST AFRICAN NATIONS and their partners with actionable, ethical, and evidence-based frameworks to navigate global mega-trends and secure sustainable economic and social transformation.

Our Vision

The lack of high-integrity, politically neutral, and culturally relevant data and frameworks needed to effectively guide sustainable investment and productivity is staggering. The gap results in systemic deficits such as: poor infrastructure, critical skills-policy mismatch, conflict and human displacement, and lack of climate impact preparedness.

  1. We envision an economic region (West Africa) that upholds democracy and the rule of law;
  2. Our vision is to drive industrialisation and high-skilled people that can sustain businesses and investment in the sub-region; and
  3. We envision a secure and peaceful economic region where families and organisations can connect to achieve common goals and live up to good standards.

Our Philosophy

The Institute’s identity is anchored on Productivity and Innovation. Our virtues are based on timeless principles that have shaped great nations and people.
We call it the: RICH mindset:

  • R = Resilience
  • I = Innovation,
  • C = Competence
  • H = Humility.

Our 'Doing'
The following principles guide every output of the Institute for Global Futures:
  1. Technology-Driven: Utilising AI, data analytics, and digital tools for transformation;
  2. World-Class Standard: Upholding the highest levels of integrity, evidence-based rigour, and methodological transparency.
  3. Actionable Frameworks: Developing policy frameworks (working plans) that are specifically designed for implementation in West Africa and scalable globally.
  4. Ethical Contributors: Ensuring all experts adhere to strict codes of ethical, credible, and respectful viewpoints.
  5. Diversity & Inclusion: Mandating diverse representation across all events, research teams, and governance bodies.
